Responses to the session: Refining your App's User Interface
When it comes to your application, its user interface is your first impression. If users can't get past the first screen, they are likely to abandon or delete your app. Once they've had one negative experience it will be challenging to convince them ... [session page]
Liz Marley: The content overlapped a fair bit with the other UI presentation. She had some solid ideas, but Suzanne also seemed a bit weak in background research -- she seemed quite flustered to hear that something she recommended against was actually recommende... [read more]

With 200,000 apps in the App Store, simply writing code isn't enough to make you successful. In order to rise to the top, you need to have a killer UI. In this session, you'll learn techniques and tricks to polish your app so it's "App Store ready." ... [session page]
Liz Marley: The material was presented well, but it was fairly introductory. New developers may have found this session useful, but if I had known I wouldn't learn anything from it, I would have attended the other session instead. Perhaps the description could h... [read more]

Writing, shipping, and maintaining an iPhone application is a process that many will start this year. This talk is an introduction to how an iPhone application goes from an idea to a shipping reality, and how that process can be made more pleasant an... [session page]
Jay Anderson: A nice balance of ice-breaker humor and real content.
Jamie Martin: this was awesome, and honestly the best part of the whole conference. :-)
Liz Marley: Solid content, presented with humor, clarity, and confidence. I found the 'okay, who's doing what role?' question at the beginning of each skit a little annoying. Maybe they should have decided that beforehand.

Responses to the session: Core Animation: Bringing the Magic
It used to be hard to create interfaces that were engaging and user friendly. With the introduction of Core Animation, first on the iPhone and then on Mac OS X, developing great looking and intuitive interfaces has become attainable even for the casu... [session page]
Jay Anderson: Don't try to write code in front of an audience at the end of the day.
Cris Ewing: really, there is a reason people tell you not to do live demos. This was one of the worst presentations I've seen at any conference.
Darren Sillett: Truly awful presentation. I was expecting much more from this talk. He barely got through the basics and even those he was patchy and confused about.

The iPhone SDK provides a nearly-complete toolkit for navigation and travel applications. Its Core Location framework uses a variety of technologies to pinpoint your location, direction, and orientation, while Map Kit easily serves up map images to s... [session page]
Evan Robinson: Fantastic survey of the subject and the requirements of map data licensing. If there are open source places to get map data it would have been nice to include prominent pointers to them.

Responses to the session: InApp Purchase: Best/Worst Thing Ever
In-App Purchase offers a great way for your users to enhance your application after the sale by purchasing additional material: new game levels, in-game goods, and subscriptions to new content. For the user, it's just a few taps, and an easy payment ... [session page]
Cris Ewing: This was both a solid presentation and very useful. The information was highly relevant to my interests and was well delivered. A great eye-opener.
Evan Robinson: Interesting survey of the opportunities and headaches associated with in app purchase. Worth attending, although a total package solving the headaches would have been a very nice announcement at the end of the talk :-)

Responses to the session: Performance Tuning on the iPhone
An application’s real-time performance is one of the MOST important issues that all iPhone developers face today. Understanding the unique constraints that these embedded devices have are essential to optimization success. Developing software to effi... [session page]
Cris Ewing: Whoa! Reminded me of the AP Chemistry class I took in high school. Way more than I ever wanted to know. It was clear he knew what he was talking about, though :/
Evan Robinson: Excellent session. I might have liked to see a wider spectrum of optimization techniques and some indication of where they might be used, as well as demonstrations of how Shark or Instruments could be used to detect where and how to optimize.

This presentation will cover how to get started with Cocos2D and Box2D frameworks and how to apply it in building an iPhone game. Developing games for the iPhone can be a lot of fun, but learning where to start is difficult for new Objective-C develo... [session page]
Robert Brennan: This sounds like a great workshop!
Matt Martel: Rod is great, you will love this session.
Evan Robinson: The concept is good, but in reality watching someone code is rather like watching paint dry. IMO a better arrangement would have been a detailed code walkthrough of the final working game.

Is there a central place to find them or are they spread out on the speakers' various blogs?

Barbara Gavin: You can access the slides and code from each speakers session description page. Look on the right side of the page. or, for all the sessions where I have received material: http://iphone2010.crowdvine.com/talk/presentations

Responses to the session: Reachability and all the REST
Networks don’t always work; they fail often. Networks that rely on radios fail even more often. How do we cope? In my REST applications, I cope using a combination of open source technologies and Cocoa APIs. This talk will survey the technical choice... [session page]
Cris Ewing: Spent a bit too much time early on in descriptions. More emphasis on usage might have been helpful.

Responses to the session: Memory Management on the iPhone
Proper memory management is important for any program, but it is critical for iPhone apps, because iPhones don't have a lot of physical memory and the iPhone OS does not have a swap system. When the OS begins to run out of memory, it sends your app a... [session page]
Cris Ewing: quite valuable. Especially the bits and pieces about image management. Since my apps will likely be very image-heavy, I expect that bit to be of great help.

Responses to the session: Cocoa Design Patterns
Cocoa frameworks are elegantly consistent with recurring patterns throughout their design. Understanding the patterns enables the most effective use of the frameworks and serves as a guide for writing your own applications. This session supplies insi... [session page]

The Summer of 2009 saw the explosion of interest around a new technology called "augmented reality." In its most essential form, augmented reality aims to abolish the barrier between what we perceive as digital and what we perceive as real. Until we ... [session page]

I'm flying over from the UK and I don't have any plans for Friday evening. Anyone fancy dinner somewhere around the conference with a chance to talk iphone?

Tom Bernard: Hi Rob, Did you find any takers? It is 8:00 Friday and I am about to seek food. I would welcome your company and iPhone discussion. ++ Tom

Barbara Gavin posted Hotel Internet

So - if you are staying in the Edgewater, we set it up so you have free wireless. But - the system here at the hotel will make you sign up, asking your name and room number and how many nights of Internet you want. Go ahead and sign up - once the charge from the ISP hits your hotel bill, it will be wiped.

Christopher Allen posted Using CrowdVine Profiles

Admins: At iPadDevCamp last weekend we used CrowdVine's profile feature to add a number of additional profile entries that made finding people and matching interests between people using CrowdVine much more effective. You may want to take a look at iPhoneDevCamp-2010.crowdvine.com to see how we used them. -- Christopher Allen, iPhoneDevCamp co-Founder, Hackathon Host, Matchmaker & Concierge

Barbara Gavin: Thanks for your ideas. I have been very gratified, working with Tony and his team, to extend the functionality of CrowdVine.

Barbara Gavin posted Restaurant Week

I wonder if there are any passionate foodies out there...coming to the conference in search of more than new skills? Seeking a gastronomic experience, too? When Seattle Restaurant Week kicks off April 18-29, more than 100 participating King County restaurants will offer three-course dinners for $25 Sundays through Thursdays. Some will also add a $15 three-course lunch. On tap are places large (Blueacre Seafood, assuming it opens as scheduled) and... [read more]
